Lapua’s Nick Mowrer wins 2026 Lones Wigger Firecracker 4800

Team Lapua’s Nick Mowrer captured the overall championship at the 2026 Lones Wigger Firecracker 4800, posting an impressive winning score of 4792-385 at the NRA Whittington Center in Raton, New Mexico.

Held July 2–6 and sponsored by the Socorro Gun Club, the Lones Wigger Firecracker 4800 features four days of demanding competition. Competitors shoot the NRA Conventional Prone Course of fire of 120 shots a day consisting of the Dewar (50 and 100 yards), 100 yard and 50 meter matches, in both the iron sights and any sight categories.

Mowrer topped a highly competitive field, with Deena McDorman finishing second at 4790-386 and Griffin Lake taking third at 4783-374. Notably, all three podium finishers relied on Lapua rimfire ammunition, highlighting the consistency and precision required to excel at the highest levels of smallbore competition.

“Success in this sport is never a solo effort. A huge thank you to Lapua ammunition for their outstanding Center-X ammunition and to Walther Competition Shooting USA for the KK500,” commented Mowrer. “When preparation meets reliable equipment, great things can happen, and I’m proud to represent two companies that are committed to excellence.”

Mowrer’s Center-X .22LR ammunition was matched to his rifle at Lapua’s Rimfire Performance Center. Unique lots of ammunition are tested at 50 and 100 meters simultaneously, identifying the best performing ammunition for purchase. This service is available to any shooter who wishes to gain a competitive advantage. Schedule your testing at either of Lapua’s Rimfire Performance Centers located in Mesa, AZ, or Marengo, OH.
