Kevin Nevius repeats as NRA National Prone Champion

NRA National Conventional Prone Championships in the 2015 event in Bristol, IN, July 15-19.

Getting stronger every day, Kevin Nevius claimed back to back NRA National Conventional Prone Championships in the 2015 event in Bristol, IN, July 15-19. This is Nevius’ third conventional National Title to go along with two Metric Prone Championships. Nevius shot scores of 1196, 1199, 1198, and a perfect 1200, respectively in the four days of competition for a total of 4793, narrowly defeating the Army Marksmanship Unit’s Hank Gray who fired a 4792.  Team Lapua’s Nancy Tompkins captured High Woman and High Intermediate Senior. Nevius and Tompkins were both shooting Lapua Midas+ ammunition for all the matches. The NRA National Metric Prone Championships begin on Tuesday, July 21. Showing their shooting versatility, both Nevius and Tompkins will be members of the USA Palma Team to compete in the World Long Range Championships at Camp Perry in August.

Louisiana State Pistol Match and the Magic City Regional competition in Birminghan

Team Lapua’s Philip Hemphill continued his dominance. Hemphill took both matches for the 2nd consecutive year. Hemphill also competed at the NRA National Pistol Championship at Camp Perry and finished 16th overall. Team Lapua’s Brian Zins returned to Camp Perry seeking his 13th National Championship after rehabbing from surgery, but fell short, finishing in 2nd place.

Lapua’s Mark Pharr captured the overall title, narrowly defeated Luke Johnson. Pharr was using 6.5 x 47 Lapua cases, Lapua Scenar bullets, and VihtaVuori powder to win in a very competitive field. Pharr will return to Ridgway in August to compete in the NRA National Championships for smallbore and high powder rifle. Johnson, who will be a sophomore on the University of Alaska-Fairbanks rifle team, went from Ridgway to Fort Benning and captured the USA Shooting Junior National title. Johnson was the top qualifier and then put the finishing touches on his junior crown with a first place finals finish. Johnson shoots with Lapua Midas+ ammunition.
