Aleksi Leppä wins 300 m Rifle 3 Positions World Championship Gold in Cairo
Aleksi Leppä, Finland, claimed the World Championship title in the 300 m Rifle Three Positions Men event on Saturday at the ISSF World Championships in Cairo, Egypt.
Leppä secured the gold medal with a score of 591, finishing tied with Poland's Maciej Kowalewicz. The world title was decided by inner tens, where Leppä prevailed convincingly, 29-22. Fellow Lapua-sponsored shooter Jon-Hermann Hegg from Norway earned the bronze medal with a score of 589 after a closely contested competition.
The victory marks a remarkable return to the top of the sport for Leppä, one of Finland's most accomplished rifle shooters. He previously won two World Championship gold medals in 2018 and added three World Championship silver medals between 2022 and 2023. Leppä also represented Finland at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
According to the Finnish Shooting Sport Federation, Leppä described the achievement as surreal after a demanding day on the range.
"The feeling is quite unreal. It wasn't an easy day," Leppä said.
He opened the match strongly in the kneeling position but faced challenges maintaining his rhythm toward the end of the stage.
"Kneeling started really well. There were some challenges at the end because I couldn't find a good rhythm all the way through. Prone was good."
The standing position proved to be the biggest challenge of the day.
"The result definitely didn't come easily today. I'm especially pleased with my performance and my ability to keep fighting."
Lapua warmly congratulates Aleksi Leppä on his World Championship title and Jon-Hermann Hegg on his bronze medal performance.
