Jan 18, 2006: Kuortane, Finland chosen for Internation Sport Shooting Development Center.

The International Sport Shooting Federation ISSF has chosen The Kuortane Sport Academy in Finland as an accredited development center (Officially Accredited ISSF Development Centre, ISSF ADC). The 3-year cooperation agreement was signed in München, and is the first of its kind in the world. The agreement is valid 1.1.2006 – 31.12.2008.

The Kuortane Sport Academy has for a long time invested in developing the sport shooting conditions in outdoor as well as in indoor shooting. The Kuortane Sport Academy is the national training center for the Finnish Shooting Union. Kuortane has a sport high school, and shooting has been part of their action for several years. Also several children´s and youth national level shooting competitions are organized annually.

Cooperation with Nammo Lapua Oy is essential in developing the training center. Lapua is an official partner of Kuortane Sport Academy for the ISSF agreement period. According to the cooperation, ISSF organizes official shooting and coaching trainings, offers possibilities for training camps for national members and organizes different sport shooting development projects. The first international training session was organized in September 2006.

Juha Hirvi from Finland, a top shooter with multiple top competition medals, also cooperates in the shooting development center functions. Director Tapio Korjus from Kuortane comments the ADC agreement: "This agreement is an important step to make Kuortane Sport Academy more international. The excellent conditions and know-how have now been noticed also abroad. It feels great to get also international shooting cooperation to us, in addition to the international athletics cooperation."

Also the ISSF General Secretary Horst G. Screiber is satisfied with the agreement. "This kind of a concept is totally new in international development of sport shooting. In Kuortane the conditions, shooting know-how, appreciation of the sport and other facilities in Kuortane fulfill the criteria we have set for the accreditation.
