Lapua is proud to present an all new caliber 6,5x47 Lapua for serious long range target shooting. The cartridge is based on a 5 mm shorter .308 Win. The powder capacity has been optimized for loads to the extremely accurate 6,5 mm bullets. The cartridge has external dimensions similar to the .308 Win. so it accepts the same bolt heads and fits into the same size actions and magazines.
The 6,5x47 Lapua was developed in close cooperation with one of the world´s leading sport rifle manufacturers, Swiss Grünig & Elmiger AG. The current Grünig & Elmiger rifles accept the new caliber by just changing the barrel.
The goal was to create a competition cartridge that works even in windy conditions better that the popular 6mm BR Norma, and has a reduced barrel wear. The new caliber has raised lots of interest in the USA among benchrest, F-class and long distance shooters. They see potential between the .220 Russian (6mm PC) and 6,5-284, offering top quality in distances from 300 to 1000 meters. The 6,5x47 Lapua is a flat shooting cartridge, which outperforms the .308 Win. and many other currently used target cartridges in long range shooting. It provides ballistics similar to the 6,5x55 and close to the .300 Win. Mag.
The benefits of the new caliber are clear. The cartridge dimensions are optimized for target bullets. The 6,5x47 Lapua uses the 6,5 mm (.264) caliber bullets, recognized for excellent ballistics and superior accuracy. The high pressure level (4350 bar/63090 psi) and optimized powder capacity enable high velocity and flat trajectory. The 6,5x47 Lapua has a low wind drift, which makes the shot especially accurate.
