The 300m rifle shooters compete next summer in the Lapua European Cup. Nammo (the company behind the Lapua brand) small caliber division director Raimo Helasmäki and European Shooting Confederation Vice President Mati Mark signed a cooperation agreement in Helsinki on the 28th of March.
"Lapua is number one in target shooting disciplines and we want to support a great discipline, the 300m rifle competition, together with the European Shooting Confederation. We hope that also the shooters and weapon manufacturers share the support", commented Helasmäki, who himself is a member of two different shooting clubs in Finland. The Lapua European Cup competitions will be held this summer 8.-15. May in Pilsen, Czech, 6.-11. June in Tolmezzo, Italy and 10.-15. August in Aarhus, Denmark. The final will be held 20.-23. September in Winterthur, Switzerland.
The ESC Vice President Mati Mark commented in Helsinki that the 300m disciplines are the basis of the Shooting World Championship games´ 110-year history. The first World Championship shooting competition was only for the 300m disciplines, with four individual and one team event. The star at the time was Frank Julien from Switzerland, winning three personal gold medals and a team gold medal as well.
"During the past years an average of 14 countries have taken part in the European Cup. In the future we try to get also new countries, like Russia and Ukraine, involved", Mati Mark explained.
