  • .22 LR ammunition: New product family is announced (Lapua GmbH)

    2008 With the new X-ACT as the flagship ammunition, the enhanced .22 LR family including Midas+, Center-X, Pistol King, Pistol OSP and Polar Biathlon is announced. X-ACT has been developed after a long research period to unite all positive properties of all materials used. The shooters can benefit of its absolute accuracy and consistency and use an extremely sophisticated product of highest quality.

  • 6.5x47 Lapua

    2006 The 6.5x47 Lapua is a cartridge designed for serious competition shooting. Lapua developed the 6.5x47 in conjunction with a Swiss rifle manufacturer, Grunig & Elmiger. The chamber and throat dimensions are optimized for target bullets. The 6.5x47 Lapua is CIP approved

    2005 Nammo AS ownership changed: 50% owned by Patria Oyj and 50% by the Norwegian government

  • Naturalis bullet

    2003 Unique Lapua technology. A great performing 99% copper bullet retains up to 100% of its weight. The valve at the tip of bullet opens immediately on impact, leading the bullet to expand symmetrically and without shattering. This high tech bullet design gives a maximal shock effect and it works perfectly within terminal velocities of 500 m/s - 1000 m/s. The Naturalis is extremely effective by giving a clean shot and minimizes meat loss.

  • Birth of Nordic Nammo Group

    1998 In August 1998 Patria Industries Oyj from Finland, Celsius AB from Sweden and Raufoss ASA from Norway signed an agreement to affiliate the companies into a Nordic Nammo Group, which started its operations in the summer of 1998. In Finland Nammo Lapua Oy became part of the Nammo Group.

  • The formation of Patria

    1996 Finnish military manufacturers formed a state owned company Patria Industries including Patria Finavitec, Patria Lapua, Vihtavuori Oy, Patria Vammas and Patria Vehicles.

  • .22 LR ammunition: Midas L and M ammunition (Lapua factory)

    1995 Lapua Midas became the world’s most accurate .22 LR cartridge. It was available in two versions: L, bullet diameter 5.69 mm and M, bullet diameter 5.67 mm. This allowed the shooter to select the right round that matches the bore dimensions of his rifle. Shooters still remember the infamous Lapua Midas gold box.

  • Cartridge Factory Lapua Ltd

    1991 In 1991 Lapua became an independent limited liability company under the new name Cartridge Factory Lapua Ltd. In 1992, Lapua acquired the German cartridge factory SK Jagd- und Sportmunitions GmbH. The product line fulfills and supports the ammunition selection of the main factory.

    1989 3 gold medals with Lapua Pistol King

  • Scenar bullet

    1988 Lapua’s record-breaking line of Scenar target bullets were first introduced in the 1980s, and immediately made a name for themselves. They were the very first European manufactured OTM (Open Tip Match) bullets and set the standard from that point on. In 1990, the Scenar was used in Moscow to set a new world record in 300 meter ISSF competition, points 600 out of a possible 600. Literally, a perfect score.

  • .338 Lapua Magnum

    1988 The legendary .338 Lapua Magnum, our much-copied paragon of quality and accuracy has an effective range up to 1500 meters. The first lot of the .338 Lapua Magnum for testing was produced in 1988. A motion had however been made for CIP in 1987, and in 1989 the .338 Lapua Magnum was CIP approved with its measurements.

    1984 The Lapua Mega is for hunting big game. This bullet is at its best in the field and typically more than duplicates on impact, causing an immediate shock effect in your quarry. The Mega is a soft point bullet with a protective copper jacket – traditional hunting performance. This ensures that the bullet’s lead alloy core remains intact when shooting through brush or branch. The mechanical bonding locks the lead alloy in place, allowing the bullet to achieve up to 97% weight retention. Mega product family covers the most popular calibres in Scandinavia including 9 products.

  • Concentration in product development

    1980 In the 1980´s Lapua concentrated strongly in product development, which resulted in fast growth in the civilian product sales. As marketing and product development got stronger, Lapua became an even more competitive manufacturer in sport shooting, hunting and special purpose cartridge markets.

  • Explosion resulted in relocating of the factory

    1976 In 1976 an explosion accident resulted in the decision to build a new factory, further away from the city center. Next step was to further expand by building a new case and bullet factory, which was taken into use in 1984.

  • Incorporation with Valmet

    1946 The Cartridge Factory was incorporated with the Governmental Metal Factory, Valmet. The first rimfire cartridges were manufactured in 1947. The cartridge factory went under the Ministry of Defense in 1955.

    1933 Often copied, never equaled. The legendary D46 is one by which all others of its type are measured. Manufactured to the strictest tolerances for concentricity, uniformity of shape and weight, it has shot its way to the record books since the 1930’s all the way to the 21st century.

  • Early years of Lapua

    1923 Finland became independent in 1917, and the state owned cartridge factory was founded and built in Lapua in 1923. In 1927 the name State Cartridge Factory was taken into use. In the beginning the operations were modest, but since the political situation in the world changed before the World War II, the ammunition production quantities multiplied.
